Budapest. Several thousands protesters, angry with the decision of the Hungarian government to intentionally publish incorrect information on success in the economic policy and fight with organized crime in the country before the elections there in April, tried to penetrate the building of the Hungarian national TV. According to a TV employee, riot control troops were forced to use tear gas to disperse the crowd. Recently a video recording was made available to public in Hungary, showing officials from the current socialist government of the Prime Minister Ferenz Gyurcsany, who admit that they intentionally decided to publish incorrect information regarding the situation in the country’s national economy shortly before the elections in April. The incorrect information also concerned fighting organized crime in Hungary. According to the Hungarian opposition this fraud helped Gyurcsany win the vote. Later participants in anti-government protests set the building of the National TV channel in Hungary on fire, eyewitnesses reported. According to a TV employee, protesters have taken over the larger part of the building and started looting. TV employees were evacuated. The national security council is to discuss the actions of the Government in response to the riots. The meeting will be chaired by the Prime Minister Gyurcsany. More than 50 people were injured in the riots. According to officials the larger part of the people were injured in clashes with police troops. |
